£1,000 a year: The GST cost to households, say JDA
Saturday 28th June 2008, 9:59AM BST.
THE average household faces a bill of over £1,000 a year because of GST, according to Deputy Geoff Southern and the Jersey Democratic Alliance.
And the Deputy, speaking on behalf of the JDA, released figures yesterday that purport to show that a couple with children are likely to pay as much as £1,500 in GST a year.
Meanwhile, retailers say they will face an additional bill of more than £500,000 on top of the £2 million they have already spent on GST if the States support a proposal from Deputy Southern to force shopkeepers to show the tax on till receipts.
Next week the States are due to debate a proposal from the Deputy to make it mandatory for the GST charge to be shown on till receipts.
