Herbert ‘gutted’ by Beijing omission
Saturday 28th June 2008, 9:59AM BST.
JERSEY’S GB international hockey star Beckie Herbert says she is ‘absolutely gutted’ not to have been picked for the Olympic team.
Herbert’s hopes were shattered when the women’s squad for Beijing was announced earlier this week.
The Commonwealth bronze medal winner and regular England and Great Britain senior player has been training for the past year with a 24-strong squad, which was cut to a team of 16 and two reserves.
She said: ‘It’s really disappointing because I felt like I was in fairly good form this year. I felt I was pretty consistent. It’s frustrating, because I know I gave myself the best chance I could. So it’s not been the easiest of weeks, but these things happen.’
