Waterfront: Bring all work to an end on the site until guarantees have been set
Saturday 28th June 2008, 9:59AM BST.
From Brendan McDonald.
THE Chief Minister, defending himself against his critics, has insisted that he is neither a liar nor a fool. He also could not resist the temptation to accuse his tormentors of electioneering. How childish can you get?
I cannot remember reading or hearing the word liar either in the letters pages of the JEP or on BBC Radio Jersey’s phone-in. These two media have strict policies regarding unsavoury language and would not allow contributors to use derogatory language against another person, politician or otherwise.
Senator Walker said he was given the wrong information regarding Harcourt by a senior WEB official, a categorical assurance that there was no court case pending. He must now do two things.
He must replace that member of WEB with someone he can trust, then he must extend an invitation to the two shareholders of Harcourt who are bringing the case to the Irish courts to come to Jersey and give their version of events. If these two gentlemen are what they are claiming to be, they must be heard.
There must be no resumption of work on the Waterfront until all parties are sitting around the table and guarantees are set. Then, finally, Senator Walker should apologise to Deputy Baudains for almost implying that he was lying.
