Where is all this fighting going?

TIME was when a visit to your average States sitting could drive the average bystander as close to the point of madness as it is possible to get without resorting to waterboarding.
Frustration, boredom and desperation could drive even the most committed journalist to look upon their pen as a weapon – and not of the ‘is mightier than the sword’ variety but purely as a means of causing pain or relief through self-mutilation.
In the days before Ministerial government, debates on the least interesting of subjects could rumble on for what seemed like eons punctuated by unfathomable speeches from inept speakers.
In contrast, as unpalatable as some of the current subject matter might be, no one can accuse it of being dull.
There are votes of no confidence all over the place, censures and all sorts of other exciting stuff including the notion of throwing out the Waterfront Enterprise Board and starting again. That, I suppose, is the upside of a really almighty mess – the fact that it isn’t boring.
A couple more months of this and we might all long for the interminable debates about how high hedges can be and how far the mains drains network extends but for now there is still the shock value of standing back and watching it kick off.
Short of my favoured solution of a wrestling match in the Royal Square, this is probably the next best thing.
The sensible and serious question is where this will all lead. Will this result in a shiny new Council of Ministers with all the right answers and the wholehearted backing of the voting public?
There is no question that the momentum for change has gathered real pace and force in the first six months of the year and that is all to the good as long as we are eventually told where those who would force change are going to take us.
