Footballing fun in aid of Zannah
Monday 30th June 2008, 2:55PM BST.
FOOTBALLERS and spectators raised over £3,500 for a young victim of a roller-blading accident and for Headway Jersey.
On Saturday around 200 footballers played in a series of six-a-side matches on the Jersey Wanderers pitch to raise money for Zannah Pemberton (22), who suffered a serious head injury while roller-blading down the hill at Bonne Nuit.
Her friend Scott Boydens (22) organised the event, which saw around 500 spectators enjoying a day of football, an open-mic session and barbecue.
Zannah, who has had a number of life-saving operations in Southampton, watched from the sidelines as the 22 teams, made up of girls, boys and over-35s, competed for a place in the final. It was also a chance for her to spend time with old friends.
Mr Boydens said: ‘It was a brilliant day. We had a total of 22 teams playing, who all donated £10 each and £3,500 was raised throughout the day from everyone chipping in. It was a very emotional day and Zannah spent a few hours up there mingling with people.’
