Les Landes races
Monday 30th June 2008, 2:59PM BST.
WINNING honours were shared out equally at Friday night’s race meeting when the five races produced five different winning trainers and jockeys.
This is something that happens very rarely at Les Landes, the last occasion being at the corresponding late June meeting back in 2003 which coincidentally was also the evening of the 27th.
The evening’s opening race The George & Leonora Sullivan Memorial Handicap Hurdle produced the first setback for punters when hot favourite Koka Fast was unable to reel in the Mike Ephgrave trained Anemix over the last two flights eventually being beaten by a cosy looking seven lengths.
Feature race of the evening The Standard Chartered Handicap saw the Joan Le Brocq trained and Mattie Batchelor ridden Flighty Fellow get the better of Cronkyvoddy by half a length in a driving finish with Wall Street Runner a further three and a half lengths back in third.
Not surprisingly with the form book being turned upside down, as all five winning horses were enjoying their first success of the season, the Tote jackpot was not won and a pool of £1,000 could well be on offer at the next meeting which is Champion Hurdle day on Sunday 13 July.
