00526407_2_cropped.jpgSHADOW UK Chancellor George Osborne has been accused of breaking Conservative party rules after reportedly earning £10,000 from making a speech in Jersey.

Mr Osborne has faced demands to pay back the money he made at the annual conference of the Jersey branch of Institute of Directors last November.

But Mr Osborne yesterday denied that he had broken rules over the fee, despite Conservative ‘anti-sleaze guidelines’ which state that: ‘Shadow ministers should not solicit fees for broadcasting, speaking engagements and articles. Fees should not be accepted if the subject matter relates directly to your shadow ministerial responsibilities.’

In the UK register for members, he states that he was paid between £5,001 and £10,000 for the event in Jersey. Speaking on BBC’s Andrew Marr breakfast programme yesterday he said: ‘I registered it in the proper way. It is not against Conservative rules; it is not against parliamentary rules because I properly registered it.’
