States aim for more efficient web strategy

00570834_cropped.jpgISLAND technology businesses are to be given the chance to work alongside the States to develop online services.

There are currently 28 different public sector websites with some hosted by the States and others by local or UK firms.

The intention is to contract one partner or a consortium of local businesses to deliver services in a more cost effective and efficient manner. The money to enhance the services will be diverted from existing budgets.

A presentation will be held on 22 July when the States Information Services department will outline the proposed new strategy. Information Services director Neil Wells said that a review of web services had been commissioned and a strategy developed which would provide new online transactions along with streamlined government information.
