Ex-F1 champion gets a new drive
Saturday 12th July 2008, 9:57AM BST.
EX-FORMULA 1 driver Nigel Mansell has been given permission to carry out work to stabilise the private road leading to his home – despite having already started the work without Planning authorisation.
The former world champion was granted retrospective planning permission yesterday for the widening of the lane leading up to his Beauport Battery home in St Brelade.
Garbot Ltd, represented by Mr Mansell and Christopher Burrough, applied for corrective works to the landside and seaside to stabilise the existing private road – Le Chemin de Creux and Le Chemin de Beauport, which runs from St Brelade’s Church to Mr Mansell’s home.
The 1(1)k resident attended the Planning applications panel meeting yesterday and defended his decision to start the work without planning permission, which caused controversy among some Islanders when they spotted the road had been widened and supported with railway sleepers.
