GST on till receipts: Plans are shelved
Saturday 12th July 2008, 9:59AM BST.
PLANS to make all businesses print the amount of GST they are charging on till receipts have been shelved following criticism from retailers.
Deputy Geoff Southern announced in the States this week that he was withdrawing his proposition because he wanted to speak to traders.
The St Helier Deputy had come under fire from the Chamber of Commerce and some individual retailers for not speaking to any of them before taking his proposition to the States.
They claimed that a change in the law now would mean them having to pass on GST to customers instead of absorbing it. They said it would be too difficult to declare how much GST they were charging and not pass it on.
