Why weren’t the Airport firefighters called in?

From David Bridges.
CONCERNING the fire that we had recently at Broadlands lodging apartments in St Peter, I am a little confused as to why the Airport fire tenders were not used to help with putting out the fire.
This was the closest fire station that could have helped, and it may have been able to limit the damage.
The excuse that they must remain at the Airport just in case of an Airport emergency doesn’t wash, as the Airport was closed due to the fire.
Can anybody shed any light on why this emergency back-up was not looked into?
It would have helped with the water situation, as fire bowsers were at hand and more able-bodied firemen could have also been used. Is it the case that we have two separate fire departments?
