Bumper entry for Carteret row race
Thursday 24th July 2008, 2:57PM BST.
ONE of the biggest ever entries, with many new, faster boats, could result in a classic Gorey to Carteret rowing race on Saturday.
This will be the 25th running of this prestigious event and an assortment of almost 60 craft will be leaving in three waves, from 9.45 am, during the Gorey Regatta, which is also on this weekend.
Working boats such as the Doreys will set off at 9.45, followed by the singles and women’s pairs and fours at 10.15, with the remainder of the faster boats being released 15 minutes later.
Fierce competition can be expected in most classes with many of the top teams racing faster craft this season. Though Guernsey is fielding only six crews, this includes one of their top quads and their top women and men’s doubles.
