Crowcroft for Chief Minister?
Friday 25th July 2008, 3:00PM BST.
THE Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, may be about to join the running for Chief Minister.
The three-term Constable, who was first elected as a St Helier No 2 Deputy in 1996, is considering standing in the Senatorial election and running against Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur for the top job.
Chief Minister Frank Walker is due to stand down at the end of the year, and so far Senator Le Sueur is the only declared candidate to replace him. Mr Crowcroft (50) took a swipe at Senator Le Sueur — who, like Senator Walker in 2005, will not face an election before running as Chief Minister — by saying that the head of the Council of Ministers should have the backing of the Island in a fresh mandate.
The Constable has, both publicly and privately, denied that he would be a candidate for the top job, but he now says that recent approaches have made him think again. He said: ‘Since saying publicly that I intended to carry on as Constable I have been approached by many local people from all walks of life who think that I should reconsider.

ok, I’ve checked todays date, and it’s not April 1st..so what gives? Surely this is a massive joke…even Frank would be better than this (and I never EVER thought I would say that!).

If May the 6th was a day that will live in infamy, then July the 25th should be seen as a glimmer of hope to those people in Jersey who have had little in the way of representation from many members of the Council of Ministers.
Constable Crowcroft should be viewed as a candidate with his heart, soul & intellect firmly directed at helping the people of Jersey and not just the parish he currently serves in.
Good luck to him, should he stand.
And if he doesn’t, then the island will need more than good luck given the alternatives.

Simon is a decent sort of guy but, in my opinion, he doesn’t have the common sense to operate as Chief Minister.
An innocent abroad. He should not even consider.

I would suggest to anyone who actually may have suggested Mr Crowcroft would be good as our new cheif minister should really get onto the States website and find the transcripts from the Connex Enquiry. It was amazing the man could even remember his own name. I think he would be a very poor choice for this position. But when in Jerseys recent history did the public ever get a say!

If Terry Le Sueur is the alternative then God help us. This is the man who totally ignored the vast majority of actual voters in this island over gst, and has repeatedly and consistently run roughshod over the peoples wishes. Making him Chief Minister will just mean that Frank will still be running things in the background, and if there is any change at all, it will be only for the worse. Go ahead and stand Simon, even if for no other reason than that you cannot possibly be a worse choice than Le Sueur.

Senator Stuart Syvret is the only person that has the people of Jersey at heart. The rest of them don’t even have a heart.
Honestly this looks like the Muppet Show from anywhere except Jersey and for those who support the establishment view. Be aware that those who stood up and defended the status quo in Jersey will be tarred with the same brush when these investigations come to a head…. Be on the right side or your political career will be over.
