Jersey push GB hard in Kolapore
Saturday 26th July 2008, 9:59AM BST.
ALEX LANGLEY was fourth in the Queen’s Prize stage two at Bisley yesterday, one of four Jersey fullbore rifle shooters to qualify for this major final.
Langley shot 150 and 20 V bulls, with Andrew Le Cheminant and Bruce Horwood on 149 and Peter Stock 148. The performance sets up a great final weekend at the British Open meeting as the Island also has four through to the St George’s final as well.
All in all yesterday was another fine showing by the Island’s sharpshooters with them putting on an excellent showing in the morning’s team event, the prestigious Kolapore Trophy.
Indeed, Jersey were all level with world champions Great Britain going into the final 600m leg on the Surrey ranges.
But the Island’s eight-strong team, forced into a last-minute change when Wally Langley damaged the sights on his rifle, had to be satisifed with third spot as the GB team, who have dominated the competition in recent years, pulled away for a seven point victory and a grand total of 1,179 (ex 1,200).
