Romerils hold on to Island

Having lost miserably to St Ouen the week before, despite victories earlier in the season over Sporting Club and a rejuvenated OVs, who would have snatched the title after convincingly beating Springfield at Grainville an hour earlier if Romerils hadn’t won, it was a relieved Waite, who said afterwards: ‘Nothing quite compares to winning the trophy for the first time, which the team did last year. But this was the first time I’ve captained the team to the title, so obviously I’m delighted.

‘I think we won because, over the season, we’ve never given up, even though we lost so disastrously to St Ouen last week. But it says a lot about the character of our side that even though we were well on our way to being beaten we fought back so strongly and our philosophy has been this year that “we’ll never give up”.
