Carl Walker has been appointed news editor. Mr Walker joined the JEP as a reporter in 2000 after starting in journalism on the Stockport Express. As the JEP’s consumer correspondent, he led the introduction of the successful Fair Play consumer feature.

Mr Walker is succeeded as features editor by Anna Plunkett-Cole, who has returned to a writing role after several years as a sub-editor. Ms Plunkett-Cole joined the JEP in 1997 and has also worked as a news reporter and columnist.

Long-serving former news editor Sue Le Ruez has, as previously reported, been appointed internet and community editor, a new role central to the future development of the JEP’s electronic publishing activities. The departmental changes coincide with the retirement through ill-health of assistant editor Anthony Lewis, who had been filling the role of news editor until suffering a stroke last November.
