The Jersey Eye is a waste of time, money and energy

AM I alone in thinking what a waste of time, money and the Island’s energy the Jersey Eye is?
I live in the vicinity and have to drive along the underpass many times a day, and in all this time I have only ever seen it occupied twice (and each time this was only one of the carriages).
What is putting people off? Is it the astronomical cost of the trip – or is it that you can get a better (and free) view of the Island if you venture up Pier Road and stand near the entrance of Fort Regent? Who really wants to see over the top of houses and building sites from the eye’s current position, and pay for the privilege?
My advice would be to first lower the cost – it makes more economical sense to run the wheel full at half the price than empty on full price.
Secondly, run the wheel on the hour in order to save Jersey’s energy, and then it may appeal to the public a little more once it looks like a popular attraction.
Thirdly, place the wheel in a more picturesque setting — preferably not in the middle of a concrete jungle as it currently stands.
My other (and maybe more poignant) concern is that it may add to the danger of the underpass as the lights of the Jersey Eye certainly distract the drivers who should be watching the road!

My partner and I visited Jersey on the 9th August 2008 and were both delighted to avail ourselves of a trip on ‘THE EYE’. OK it is a bit expensive, but not in comparison to the ‘LONDON EYE’, yes I agree that we both thought that more people would take a trip if it cost say, half the prices now charged. The LONDON version gives you just one revolution VERY SLOWLY and we had seven (quite swift in comparison)on JERSEYS (making it really good value). If I were asked to make suggestions to make it more profitable I would agree in part with the ‘Cobblestones’ writer. Make it cheaper, advertise it more extensively (we were not aware of its existence until we checked it out in person), shorten the rides to perhaps three revolutions ans slow it down just a tad. Yours very sincerely
