Tigers duo set new records

JERSEY AIB Tigers made an impressive start to this year’s National Youth Swimming Championships in Ponds Forge, Sheffield, breaking two Island records.
In the 100 metres backstroke, 15-year-old Tom Gallichan broke Simon Le Couilliard’s seven year record with a time of 62.22 seconds.
Le Couilliard won a medal with this time in 2001, but Gallichan had to settle for a place as the first reserve place for the evening’s semi-finals, showing the yearly improvements within the sport. Gallichan will be encouraged by his performance this year as he will still be eligible to compete in the 15/16-year-old age group next year.
Tigers’ other record breaker was 14-year-old Emma Glendening (pictured), who broke her own Island record with a time of 61.22 seconds in the 100 metre freestyle.
