Jersey self-destruct
Thursday 31st July 2008, 3:00PM BST.
JERSEY let victory slip from their grasp as they were defeated by Guernsey in the under-19s inter-insular at Grainville yesterday.
Just 80 runs from the winning line, with 20 overs and six wickets in hand, Jersey stumbled badly to eventually lose by 42 runs.
It was a great disappointment as they had bowled and fielded well. Moving along steadily at 135 for four they then paid the penalty for a silly run out and a couple of balls later Mark Chipperfield followed run-out victim Matt Hanley back to the pavilion after being well caught at point by David Hooper.
The pair put on a 46-run partnership and they were looking extremely confident to guide Jersey home as they were timing their shots well and running well between the wickets before Hanley was dismissed.
