Where have all the flowers gone? Killed by zealots, every one
Thursday 31st July 2008, 2:59PM BST.
From Christopher Davey.
WELL done, St Helier Parks department, for your kneejerk reaction in ripping out those rather nice daturas in Parade Gardens (JEP, 23 July) whose flowers have been giving us pleasure for the last 15 years.
Datura, if you eat it, apparently gets you ‘drowsy, intoxicated and detached from things around you’. On this premise the police will now presumably be closing down all the pubs as well.
Health and Safety must be furious that they didn’t get there first.
Perhaps they could redeem themselves by publishing lists of every shrub and plant that could conceivably do harm. Yew, ivy, belladonna and ragwort will do for starters. What a worryingly dangerous world we live in.
Ah, and that reminds me . . . I must give those poppyheads a bit of a shake.
