Funfair ride accident
Friday 1st August 2008, 7:03PM BST.
TWO young girls were thrown from a funfair ride this afternoon, just half an hour after the fair opened.
One of the 12-year-olds was reportedly knocked unconscious after hitting her head as she was flung from the Mega Bounce. It is understood the other managed to hold on while the ride slowed down, before hitting a metal light.
Minutes before the accident happened at around 2.30 pm, Miss Battle of Flowers Holly Fraser and Miss Junior Battle Darcey Kelly had opened the annual funfair at the People’s Park on the same ride.
The two injured girls were taken to the General Hospital after the safety bar which kept them in their carriage flipped up and they were both thrown out while the ride was still moving. Yesterday evening the ride was closed and sealed off with police tape and a temporary fence.
