Athletics captain confident

00485384_2_cropped.jpgTHE Sportingbet Channel Islands Athletics Club remain threatened by relegation after finishing in bottom position at their third British Athletics League Division III match of the season on Saturday.

At Bedford, the CI team were again hit by an injury, Stephen Prosser pulling a hamstring in his opening event but he is expected to be fit for the CIAC’s final match of the season at Ashford, Kent, in two weeks’ time.

Meanwhile the CI women’s team, who have secured their status in Division III of the UK League for next season, placed seventh yesterday out of the eight teams competing in Ashford.

CI captain Peter Irving, who won his 400m hurdles race, said: ‘It’s a disappointing result, but we were weakened by the absence of six of our leading athletes because of injuries and other commitments. Hopefully they will all be back for our final League match.
