Were UK’s ‘forgotten children’ sent here?
Monday 4th August 2008, 3:00PM BST.
A BRITISH MP is urging all UK councils to check whether any children were ‘dumped and forgotten about’ in care homes in Jersey.
The plea comes after reports of at least five children who were illegally placed in care in the Island by Birmingham social services, which then allegedly lost track of them.
Last month Birmingham City Council told the JEP that no children had been placed at Haut de la Garenne and denied that any children were missing.
Yesterday it was revealed that Liberal Democrat MP John Hemming (pictured) discovered that Birmingham council had sent children to Jersey. He believes that other children from the UK were also placed in care here.
