Jobs go as costs and GST bite

Yesterday 12 employees of Jersey Aircraft Maintenance, the engineering group of Aviation Beauport, were told that the company will be closing down at the end of next month because it is has been losing hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Managing director Greg Graham (pictured) said that it was a very sad day and that the introduction of GST had been the last straw for the business.
‘There are a number of complex reasons why we have decided to cease trading. Staff are getting older and older and we cannot replace them because the high cost of living in Jersey has made it harder to replace retired engineers. There is also a shortage of aero engineers in Europe.
