The day I met my very first beggar in Jersey

Saturday 9th August 2008, 9:59AM BST.

From John Avery.
TODAY, for the first time in my 17 years of living in Jersey, I was approached by a beggar for money for food.

Is this how low our rich Island has come to – that we cannot even feed the poor people who live here?

I trust our politicians will think on that while they are on their long summer holidays – especially the mega-rich ones.

This is just the start, food prices have gone through the roof, it’s not time to beg it’s time to take back our island and drive out these parasites which deprive us of a decent standard of living.

Have you been walking with your eyes closed all this time…
There is a lot of poverty in Jersey well hidden I admit, but it is there.
