More memories in store from Le Rondin
Monday 11th August 2008, 3:00PM BST.
AN old picture of Le Rondin Stores, St Mary, printed in April, prompted one of its former owners to get in touch with her own memories and photgraphs.
Jo Noivid ran the stores in 1975 and 1976 and rented accommodation from one Arthur Le Brun, who had delivered bread to her parents’ Maufant home in the 1930s.
She sold the business to the then Constable of St Mary, Fred Le Feuvre.
Mrs Noivid writes that Mr Le Feuvre had found it amusing that he was buying the shop from the granddaughter of another former Constable, John Le Couteur.
Mr Le Feuvre had also worked for Mr Le Couteur as a young man.
She also recalls her own Island memories. ‘I remember my mother buying my sister and me Fry’s Chocolate Cream from the stores before the war, and it was treat to travel on a Tantivy bus,’ she said.
Mrs Noivid, who now lives in Wales, has sent a couple of pictures of her son, who she says was a great favourite with the French workers, ‘driving’ a tractor outside the stores.
