The tenth 24-hour Relay for Life event has raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research. Throughout the weekend, teams wearing fancy dress walked around the Trinity showground to raise money, awareness and have some fun.

The 24-hour event began at midday on Saturday when the Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant – General Andrew Ridgway, officially welcomed the participants.

Cancer survivor Fran Phillips made a speech before those who have been diagnosed with cancer walked the ‘lap of life’ while 300 balloons were released into the sky. This was followed by a ‘caregivers’ lap which was led by staff at the oncology department.
