You all showed such kindness to our deaf people

From Mike and Pat Reynolds.
WE came over from Sutton Coldfield as carers for 14 people, pre-lingually deaf and not an easy group to manage.

Our experience in the UK, when taking similar groups on holiday has been generally mixed and, on occasions, we have been treated abominably.

In stark contrast, all through our holiday in Jersey we were welcomed and treated with kindness and patience. Wherever we went there was a generosity of spirit which would be difficult to match.

Incredibly generous concessions were made at Durell, the gardens at Samarès Manor and the Jersey War Tunnels and, on one occasion, Waverley Coaches actually provided us with transport free of charge.

But our real appreciation of Jersey was not about concessions, it was about attitude and manner. The ordinary people we met in the street, shopkeepers, our guides at various places of interest, our coach drivers, all seemed to be committed to making our deaf friends feel welcome and included.

South Coast Cruises were actually asking us, the carers, for advice on installing a loop system on the boats so that the deaf and hard of hearing could have better access to their commentary.

Put all this together and we have to conclude that we were the recipients of a very special holiday. The people of Jersey are to be heartily congratulated.
