A Jerseyman in Beijing … but he’s flying the flag for Bermuda
Saturday 16th August 2008, 9:59AM BST.
A JERSEYMAN is preparing for triathlon success in Beijing – but he’s doing it on behalf of Bermuda.
Neil de Ste Croix, who moved to the Atlantic island nearly 20 years ago, is acting as triathlon manager for the team. Although he is not competing at the Olympic Games, he has been coaching Bermuda medal hope Flora Duffy who competes in Beijing on Monday.
De Ste Croix, who was educated at La Moye junior school and Les Quennevais, is himself an accomplished triathlete and mountain biker who was named Bermuda’s triathlete of the year for five years running.
In 2003 he made Island Games selection after doing well in Bermuda’s eight-race mountain bike winter series and has competed in America. De Ste Croix, who still has family in the Island, now regularly coaches up to 60 triathlon club members in Bermuda between the ages of seven and 19.
