Swimmer dies in St Brelade’s Bay
Monday 18th August 2008, 4:05PM BST.
A YOUNG man from Slovakia died while swimming in St Brelade’s Bay yesterday.
The man, who lived and worked in Jersey, got into difficulty while swimming with two of his friends by the slip near the Hotel L’Horizon, at around 6.15 pm.
It is believed that the group were about 40 metres away from the shoreline when they got into trouble. Two of the swimmers managed to get back to the shore but their friend, who was in his early 20s, got into further difficulty.
They immediately raised the alarm and the coastguard alerted the emergency services just after 7 pm and a full-scale search for the swimmer got under way.
