Women have lucky escape on Avenue
Monday 18th August 2008, 2:56PM BST.
TWO women miraculously escaped with minor injuries after their car collided with a lorry as they turned onto Victoria Avenue.
Both women walked away from the wreckage of the Peugeot 106 with superficial injuries and shock following the accident at about 7 am on Saturday.
An Ambulance Service spokesman said that both women were ‘extremely lucky’ not to have suffered more severe injuries.
The car collided with the lorry, which was heading in to St Helier, as it pulled out of a road in First Tower.
The Fire and Rescue Service and Ambulance Service were called out, and the road was closed for almost two hours as the wreckage was cleared from the scene.
The male driver of the lorry and his passenger escaped unharmed and the lorry suffered only minor damage.
The women were taken to the Hospital but were discharged later in the day. An Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘It was a very serious accident and the car was very badly damaged.
‘If there had been just a few inches in it either way, we could have been looking at a completely different story.’
