Has the eagle landed?

00583030_cropped.jpgBRITAIN’S biggest bird of prey, the white-tailed eagle, has been spotted in Jersey more than a century after the last recorded sighting in the Island.

The sighting of the eagle at Rozel last weekend was recorded on the Jersey Birds website and follows previous reports from non-birdwatchers of a large seabird in St Ouen’s Bay and at Corbière.

Ornithologist Mike Stentiford, president of the National Trust for Jersey, said that there had not been direct verification of the sighting, but birdwatchers had been out trying to spot it.

He said that the eagle has a wingspan of two metres and those who did think they had seen it might think that it resembles a small aircraft.

I am pretty sure I saw this bird about a month ago around Devil’s Hole/bottom of Mourier Valley.
