Island has ‘the greatest broadband use in Europe’

00376102_cropped.jpgJERSEY has the highest penetration of household broadband internet access in Europe, according to Jersey Telecom.

However, there is some doubt over the veracity of the claim as a result of data used to make comparisons with the rest of Europe.

JT claims that it would have topped a poll of European providers published by the World Broadband Information Service with a penetration figure of 70 per cent at the end of last year. But if figures used by the Island’s competition regulator were applied, the penetration figure would have been 66 per cent at the end of 2007, putting the Island in third place.

Jersey Telecom’s sales and marketing director, Tim Ringsdore, pictured, says that their latest figures now show that over 75 per cent of Island households have access to a broadband connection. As a result, he said, Jersey has the highest take-up in Europe.
