Distance events to benefit Hospice
Thursday 21st August 2008, 3:00PM BST.
ENDURANCE runner James Hamon is hoping to raise money for charity by taking part in a number of marathons and half-marathons over the coming months.
The money being raised will help the work of the Jersey Hospice, a charity with which James has a special connection. He said: ‘They have played an important part in my life over the past ten years and I feel it’s important to recognise the work and commitment delivered by the Hospice team.’
The first of James’ conquests was the New York Half Marathon last month. The race was around Manhattan Island, looping through the world famous Central Park.
In preparation for the run, St Lawrence resident James had been running two or three half-marathons every week and had managed to shake off a recent knee scare to compete in New York.
James (29) used to take part in lots of runs, previously completing four marathons and a large number of half marathons. This passion was put on hold when competing in a marathon in Thailand he damaged his right knee and left foot, causing him to take a year out from running.
He is now back to somewhere near full strength and is looking to continue to improve his fitness while making money for charity.
Folllowing New York, James is has booked to compete in a half-marathon in Budapest and a marathon in Dublin as well as competing in Jersey’s half and full marathons and the autumn 10 km.
He is also keen on taking part in the Paris Marathon next April as well as looking into going to a South American marathon.
All the proceeds raised go to Jersey Hospice and donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/jameshamon
