Crowds head to Gorey
Friday 22nd August 2008, 2:52PM BST.
THE sun came out just in time for yesterday’s Gorey Fete.
In a week which had been filled with wind and rain, organisers said that the surprisingly good weather should have helped the event attract record numbers.
Thousands of people flocked to the eastern harbour for the annual festival, which donates all money raised to local charities. Organisers hoped this year’s figures would be even better than the £13,000 raised last year.
A sandcastle-building competition, a treasure hunt and other seaside games got the day off to a good start, and the now traditional beautiful baby contest proved a huge hit.
