Police conclude bones search
Saturday 23rd August 2008, 9:58AM BST.
POLICE have finished searching for bones at Jersey Steel after workers discovered human remains while digging foundations two days ago.
The bones, believed to include part of a skull, were found buried in about two feet of rubble by Dandara workmen on Wednesday morning.
The remains have been photographed and experts have confirmed that at least one of the bones is of human origin.
Scenes-of-crime officers have now completed the search, and the site has been handed back to Jersey Steel.
Police say that initial tests suggest that the scene was not the original burial site, adding support to claims that the bones may have come from soil excavated during the building of Green Street car park, which sits on the site of an ancient cemetery.
