Wimbledon final for Clayton
Saturday 23rd August 2008, 10:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S 14-year-old Scott Clayton is in the final of the prestigious Road to Wimbledon national tournament after beating current British national champion in his age group Sam Hutt from Wiltshire 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 at the All England club yesterday.
During a tough semi-final he had to change tactics to pull off one of the finest wins of his young career. After losing the first set by trying to power his way to victory, he played a more controlled game and deserved his win against one of the best teenagers in the country. Today’s final, on grass, is against Northumberland’s Ben Lott, currently seeded seventh in England but the winner of his age group at the Scottish Open two weeks ago.
The winner will be presented with the trophy by Tim Henman.
