A green day out …
Tuesday 26th August 2008, 2:55PM BST.
THOUSANDS of Islanders enjoyed a green day out as St Ouen’s Bay hosted the Grassroots Festival.
Whereas some major outdoor events leave behind a permanent and often unsightly mark on the landscape, Saturday’s one-day festival was all about caring for the environment.
The festival, which was held on a seafront site between El Tico and the Watersplash, started with a beach clean and was aimed at promoting ‘green, clean and responsible living’ and at being carbon-neutral and waste free.
It featured a range of stalls and attractions, as well as food outlets and eco clothing stores.
A number of Jersey businesses demonstrated their green credentials and Islanders learnt about how they can be more environmentally aware.
Organisers even brought a recycling centre to the festival village.

The 11th Great Garden Bird Watch took place over the weekend, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February. JEP readers were asked to get on board to help monitor bird life in the Island.
I was part of the crew who supplied the stage for the show. What a fanstastic amazing place to hold a really cool event. Hope to see you there next year.
Conrats to everyone concerned.
