Jersey joins the world in 2012 Olympic celebration
Tuesday 26th August 2008, 2:59PM BST.
THE start of the official build-up to the 2012 London Olympics was celebrated in Jersey at the weekend.
The occasion was marked on Sunday by the flying of an Olympic flag over St Helier. The Olympic Handover Flag was raised at 2.30 pm above Fort Regent at the same time as the banner was flown from 500 sites around the world, including embassies, HM Forces sites, city halls, British Council offices and Foreign and Commonwealth offices.
The flag recognises that Jersey has been selected as a potential training camp for athletes preparing for the London Games.
