Ogier returns with title treble
Thursday 28th August 2008, 2:59PM BST.
GUERNSEYMAN Patrick Ogier beat last year’s Jersey Open winner in straight sets to take the first of three IFM Jersey Open Senior tennis titles last weekend.
Ogier played well in windy conditions to overcome three-time champion Jeremy Cross 6-2, 6-1 before the pair went on to win the men’s doubles event, defeating Gareth Roberts and Jordan Roberts 6-3, 6-1.
Ogier then teamed up with Kirsten McArthur to claim the mixed doubles title, beating Charlie Cohen and Katie Gouyette 6-2, 6-3.
Despite his disappointment at not being able to retain the title, Jerseyman Cross, who plays in the UK’s national tennis club league, admitted that the best man won on the day.

He said: ‘I am a bit disappointed, although Patrick played really well and he definitely deserved to win. We played each other in the final last year but he played so much better this time.
‘I did actually go into the match feeling fairly confident, as I’ve had a few good wins over the last few months, although in the last few weeks I’ve struggled to combine playing with working so I probably didn’t play as much as I’d have liked.’
