Ten in a row for juniors
Thursday 28th August 2008, 3:00PM BST.
JERSEY’S dominance of the junior inter-insular shows no signs of abating.
The young Caesareans went to L’Ancresse in Guernsey at the weekend and swept the hosts aside with a relentless display of excellent shot execution winning by 131/2 points to 31/2.
If to give up just one point last year at home was highly impressive, to travel to your main rivals’ own back yard and not give them a sniff of a chance was in a different league.
Jersey have now won the fixture for the last ten years and that delighted team manager Nick Steel.
He said: ‘To win ten on the bounce is fantastic and it’s good that we are bringing junior players through to the senior ranks. During the spell we’ve had three good groups who have all played for three years and that has helped us through.
‘We are not afraid to give younger players the chance to play and the younger of the players again performed well at the weekend.
‘Guernsey were optimistic after their humiliation last year. They have improved but so have we as a result of our now regular matches in England and France while Bournemouth University also came to play us in Jersey.’
