The visitors were made to work hard for their 4-0 win and Jersey, on the back of an excellent first half, managed to hold out until David Smith’s penalty effort just before half time.

Despite the setback – given away by an error of judgment on the part of Jersey’s ‘keeper Nick Ashley – the home side kept their heart and faltered only in the latter part of the second half when fitness levels faded against the Academy youngsters.

A dozen or so minutes into the second half Scotland captain Fraser Fyvie found the finish after a good ball into space and knocked it into the bottom corner.

At 2-0 down the Island side kept their heads to create some decent chances but the Scots were full of fire and Kyle McCausland intercepted just inside the 18-yard box, calmly controlling the ball with his first touch and banging it into the bottom left-hand corner with his right foot.

Minutes later McCausland netted his second – a deflection off the ‘keeper – but while Jersey were packed off at 90 minutes without a consolation a good first-half defence and some decent tackles from Harry Watkins ensured play, for the most part, was confined to the centre third.
