‘Send my child to boot camp’
Friday 29th August 2008, 2:58PM BST.
FOUR times the number of children that can be given a chance to turn their lives around have applied for a place on the Prince’s Trust project.
A recruitment drive to help disadvantaged and unemployed young people has been inundated with requests.
Many of those calls have come from parents who are desperate for their children to be put into a ‘boot camp’ style system.
Ted Pafitis, a qualified youth worker and team leader, pictured, said that they have had over 50 people referred to them but only have room for 15 teenagers and young adults.
‘We have had some parents ring up and say “my child needs to go to boot camp”. This is not boot camp. It is not a holiday camp. It is a very intense 12 weeks and they do so many different projects within those 12 weeks.’
