Weather threatens to destroy Bird’s ‘thank you’ bid
Thursday 4th September 2008, 2:59PM BST.
POOR weather and unsettled seas are threatening to destroy a year’s worth of training and a long-held Channel swim ambition for a Jersey sportsman.
Cédric Bird hoped to complete the challenge last month but was hampered by heavy winds and stormy seas in Dover. Consequently he was put on a stand-by list for the next possible neap tide – this Saturday – although he said the forecast predicted that his efforts may again be a wash-out.
If he does not get to make the trip this weekend, Bird will have to wait until the end of September for his final, chance.
