Bad weather hits 11 sailings
Friday 5th September 2008, 2:57PM BST.
ELEVEN sailings to and from Jersey were cancelled today as the Island was battered by strong winds and rough seas.
Beleaguered HD Ferries, which recently announced that it is stopping all winter services because of rising fuel costs and the economic slowdown, cancelled its services to Guernsey and St Malo. The 5.45 pm Jacques Cartier to St Malo was also cancelled, as was the 6 pm Hanseatic to Spain and the 8.15 pm Victor Hugo sailing to Carteret.
All three HD Ferries sailings to the Island, as well as the Hanseatic from Germany, the Victor Hugo from Guernsey and the Jacques Cartier from St Malo, were also cancelled.
The Met Office said that the strong-to-gale-force winds were due to ease slightly this afternoon, before picking up again this evening, creating rough seas around the Island and very rough seas in the Channel.
