Hosted by England at the Lakenheath Shooting Ground, the Jersey shooters recorded a string of personal best competition scores to send shock waves around the ground at the half-way stage as, for the first time ever, they led the seven-nation event by a single clay.

Unfortunately for the Islanders, the pressure told and they slipped back to sixth place overall, leaving Wales bottom of the pile.

Jersey Clay Target Shooting Association team captain Chris Settle said: ‘It was a brilliant weekend for Jersey. It was our best ever finish and our score was 30 points more than last time, which is a massive improvement.
‘We were feeling smug at the half-way point. We were all elated and our confidence was high, but unfortunately nerves took hold in the second stage. We are a relatively inexperienced team at this level and there was a lot of pressure on us. It’s just a pity we couldn’t repeat our first-half scores.’
