Big rise in number of unwanted pets

THE number of unwanted dogs and cats being brought to the Animals Shelter has rocketed in the last year because of soaring living costs and tough rules banning pets from flats.
Major Stephen Coleman, chief executive of the JSPCA, said that the number of dogs being handed in was up by 54% on this time last year and the number of cats had increased by 34%. He blamed the spiralling costs of living in Jersey, as well as the growth in the number of share transfer properties which ban pets.
Mr Coleman said: ‘We have seen a significant increase in the number of pets being brought in, and we are now running at 90 per cent capacity. One of the reasons is the growth in the number of share transfer flats in Jersey. A lot of these are being bought by property developers and many of them don’t allow their tenants to have pets in the flat. People are faced with the awful decision of either letting their pet go or being homeless.’

I Strongly argee with this article as it has happened to me and my partner, we had 2 wonderfull dogs, and had to go through rehoming them due to the fact we were no longer aloud to keep them in our flat. Its such an awfull thing to go through and i think something has to be done about it! as it is extreamly shocking the amount of pets having to leave there owners!

Its not just pets that are not welcome its kids aswell, a clear indication as to the way certain elements of the establishment treat the average family, with total contempt.
