Ex-internee’s golden day
Wednesday 10th September 2008, 2:56PM BST.
A PENSIONER who was deported to a German internment camp during the Occupation and later moved to England returned to Jersey this week to renew her wedding vows.
Marguerite Hall (70) was in the Island with her husband Victor (76) to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with a special blessing at St Brelade’s Church. The service took place at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon, a time significant to Mr and Mrs Hall as it was the same time as their wedding in 1958.
‘It was very special for me because that was the church my parents married in,’ said Mrs Hall. ‘We try to come back here every year for our holidays. We love trying the new restaurants, especially in St Aubin, which is one of our favourite places in the Island.’
When she was just four years old, Jersey-born Mrs Hall was one of the 618 internees sent to the camp in Bad Wurzach — now a twin town of St Helier — in 1942.
