Irving’s CI honour

JERSEY athletics captain and hurdler Peter Irving is the Sportingbet Channel Islands Athlete of the Year.

The Island Games gold medallist, who also skippers the CI team, gained more points than any other local athlete in this season’s British Athletics League Division III, including a clean sweep of his main hurdles event, the 400m, in all of the meetings.

His points tally was boosted by efforts in the sprint hurdles, relay and 400 flat – not to mention his filling in for field events when the team were without a recognised thrower.

Another Jersey hurdler to receive an award was Sophie Twinam, with her stupendous personal best 400m hurdles time of 62.4 seconds in a UK Women’s Division IV match gaining her the Sportingbet Performance of the Year.
