Eden gets ready to celebrate

00385334_cropped.jpgEDEN Methodist Church is celebrating its 175th anniversary this weekend based on the maxim: ‘All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above’.

In the same year that Eden Methodist Church first opened its doors, the Abolition of Slavery was passed in the UK, Jerriais was Jersey’s prominent language and the RJAHS was founded. The foundation stone for the church was laid in May 1833 and the inaugural service held on 15 September in the same year.

The church is recognising the milestone with a special celebration showcasing the talents and skills shared by the congregation. The church will be decorated with displays of art, photography, handiwork, published poetry, harvest gifts and a dolls house collection. A section of the church will also explore the role of Christianity in a modern world and how science and faith work together.

The church hall will be open tomorrow for afternoon tea, held from 2.30 – 5 pm and there are two celebration services on Sunday, at 10.45 am and 6.30 pm, to which all are invited.
